Volunteering FAQs
Stronger Together Volunteering FAQs
How do I sign up to volunteer?
Folks who are interested in volunteering should start by creating an account through our volunteer software— Stronger Together Oxford Once your account is set up, you’ll join us for an onboarding session where you’ll learn more about our program, meet our team, explore various volunteer opportunities, and get matched with an organization or community need that fits your interests.
What are the requirements to become a volunteer?
All volunteers must create an account with us to officially join Stronger Together Oxford and complete a background check. Volunteers under the age of 13 need parental consent to participate in our program and must be accompanied by an adult when volunteering. Some specific requirements may vary depending on the nonprofit organization you choose to support, and we’ll go over those details during onboarding.
How much time do I need to commit?
Time commitments are flexible and determined based on conversations between the volunteer and the community partner. In most cases, your schedule can adapt to your availability, although some organizations that serve vulnerable populations may require a more regular commitment.
Can I volunteer as part of a group?
Absolutely! We specialize in organizing “days of service” for large groups, including clubs, businesses, and more. To create a tailored experience, we ask for at least a month’s notice. Our volunteer software also offers opportunities for groups to join regularly scheduled volunteer events.
Do I need any special skills or experience?
No special skills or experience are needed to volunteer. We only ask that you put your heart and effort into every role you take on. Of course, we do consider your skills and past experience when matching you with the right opportunities to make the most of your strengths.
What should I bring or wear when volunteering?
Volunteers should always dress appropriately and practically based on the activity. For example, pantry volunteers should wear closed-toe shoes and comfortable clothing, while volunteers at the Ford Center should dress in all-black business attire. Official Stronger Together Oxford volunteers should always wear their name tags.
How do I track my volunteer hours?
Tracking your hours with Stronger Together Oxford is simple. You can either sign a general timesheet at select locations or log your hours independently through our volunteer software, making it easy to keep a record of your impact.
Can I volunteer if I have a disability?
Yes, we are committed to inclusivity and have a diverse network of community partners who prioritize making accommodations. If you have a disability, please inform the Stronger Together Oxford team in advance so that we can ensure your experience is accessible and enjoyable.
What kind of support will I receive as a volunteer?
As a Stronger Together Oxford volunteer, you’ll have the benefit of our office acting as a liaison between you and our community partners. We handle all the details, from providing necessary information and assisting with applications to setting up appointments. Plus, we offer valuable resources and training to help you feel confident and supported in your role.
How do I make a difference while volunteering?
No matter the size or scope of your volunteer efforts, every action you take has a meaningful impact on our community. By volunteering, you bring hope, build connections, and create a ripple effect of positive change. You make our neighborhoods stronger, more compassionate, and united. Whether you're stocking pantry shelves, mentoring a young student, or supporting a community event, your dedication transforms lives and fosters a sense of belonging. Your service inspires others to give back, making our community not just better, but extraordinary. Together, we are building a legacy of care and collaboration.
